structure

Back to the pool today…   even though I really should have been outside!  It’s another gorgeous day here and for some reason, when the temperature is warmer outside, the pool seems warmer, even thought it’s indoors. It was the perfect temperature and I decided to give myself a structured workout today so I would feel as though I had accomplished something.  I am goal oriented – almost to a fault – but right now I’m feeling the need to “accomplish” stuff, so I went with it.

The workout:

1000 yds-

200 warm up mixed strokes

200 sprint/ez  (25yds sprint, kicking strongly/ 25yds easy, concentrating on form X 4)

:30 rest inverval

200 sprint/ez (see above)

:30 rest interval

200 sprint/ez (see above)

200 warm down mixed strokes

The Divas are riding – with boys- tomorrow morning! Check out the Diva page for more information.

walk, walk, walk!

I’m going a little nuts without my usual daily sweat-sessions.  I feel as thought I’m spending my life at my computer working out wedding details, trying to plan a honeymoon and helping another friend plan an adventure to NYC.

Today it was too beautiful to swim indoors, so I decided to take a long walk in the direction of Samovar, where I met friends for tea.  The park was full of people soaking up the sun and on my way back I discovered a street very near my own which I’d never seen before.   It was a block of beautiful, classic houses and lush greenery.  I especially liked the house with the extensive cactus garden- spectacular to look at, low water consumption and probably easy to maintain.   I ran a few errands on my way home and sprinted to catch the bus.   I caught it but running didn’t feel great, so I’ll stick to walking for now.  I tend to notice more when I’m walking than running so even though I didn’t break a sweat, I enjoyed today’s “workout”!

The workout:

walk, walk, walk!   run errands, meet friends for coffee, or just get out and enjoy the sunshine!

water

I took the weekend off and made the unfortunate decision to cancel out of Wildflower Triathlon next weekend.  I sign up for this race almost every year and have either raced or cheered friends on for 8 years now.  I am sad to be missing it but at the same time am so content to be home over weekends that I can’t say I’m too upset.  It’s really a matter of me having too many things on my plate right now and also needing to prioritize rest over all else- for my back and for me to keep up with my life.

I saw a new physical therapist Monday and am on a new plan.  I miss my old guy but because of insurance and not wanting to see the chiropractor, I had to switch.  Either way, I’m in good hands and if I actually follow my plan, my back and core will continue to get stronger!

I ventured back to the pool today and my swim felt wonderful.  There’s nothing better for lengthening and relaxing than being in water.  I swam an easy half mile and I feel terrific!

The workout:

900 yds

400 yds alternate free, back, breast stroke- thinking of neutral spine in freestyle and opening chest in backstroke

100 yds kicking drills- getting the blood pumping in my legs

400 yds  same as above

Nikken wellness:

I’m finally listening to my body completely and taking the day to rest.  It is foggy and I always believe that the best activity for a foggy day is spending a few hours at Kabuki bath house.  So… off I go!

My stroll

Today was another really rough day for me to find motivation. It was beautiful outside so finally I changed into running clothes and decided I’d spend an hour outside. If I felt like running, I would run. For the most part I didn’t feel like running and every so often I’d give it a shot then quickly decide against it. I did spend a few peaceful minutes at the beach and what is usually a 40 minute out and back run turned into a 1 1/2 hour stroll. I did get my sprint in later… uphill 3 blocks, ballet flats in hand, computer bag on shoulder… and I caught my bus!

The workout: take a nice walk and enjoy the weather!

windblown divas

As of today, we’ve appointed RC as our weather woman.  She informed us, mid- ride as the wind was beginning to pick up, that winds were supposed to be up to 40 mph by noon.  We asked her to let us know ahead of time from now on 🙂 As we rode back along the beach, it sure felt like the wind was already that strong!

Four of us went out to do an “easy” 15 mile loop this morning, wondering if we would get a good enough workout.  We flew on the way out, did our lake loop then hit one of the strongest headwinds I’ve ever encountered on our way back. AC and I took turns drafting off one another (mostly she pulled me all the way back) and RJ got a flat pretty close to home.  Successful ride in that it’s really fun to ride with a pack of Divas.   However, I can’t honestly say the ride itself was much fun!   I’m heading to the sunroom to check out the stress relief yoga sequence I just read about.   It’s posted on my yoga page.

The workout:

15 mile flat and windy or hills (could have been either, based on the low gear I was using!), try to keep upper body relaxed and shoulders away from ears, be aware of body posture to remain as aerodynamic as possible.

Check out my Team Diva page for information about our next ride!  Also, we will be putting in an order (and hopefully saving a little money) for Nuu-Muu exercise dresses soon.  Let me know size and pattern if you’d like to get in on it!

Nikken wellness:

zone out

Some days I just don’t feel like moving.   Today was one of them- not because I was tired or sore or anything like that.  I just simply didn’t want to workout.   I decided since I didn’t have a really good excuse, I’d go to the gym and try some time on the treadmill.   First the gym alarm went off, then I realized that the awful noise I was hearing periodically was coming from my treadmill, then I decided to adjust my headband- over my eyes- and nearly ran into the side of my treadmill.  At least I had good music.  I survived 30 minutes and gladly hopped off to do some core work.

The workout:

30 minutes treadmill, no incline, steady 10 min/mile pace

Exciting news…

My quote is featured on the Nuu-Muu home page

and

Team Diva will ride again tomorrow morning!
