A few of the Divas rode yesterday (for several hours!) and a couple of us went out this morning instead. I was out too late after the show last night and when my alarm went off at 9am, it felt extremely early. I think I’m done blaming the early morning trouble on jet lag and just need to get to bed earlier! GC had to wait for me because I couldn’t find my tools- or biking pants, and then needed to put pedals back on my bike, take the panier rack off and pump up the tires. It was a labor intense morning while my oatmeal simmered. I woke my husband (!!) up banging around in the kitchen making oatmeal and looking for everything I’d misplaced. He of course got blamed for what I’d lost, but of course it was actually me who’d put everything in weird places. The tools are back where they belong but I still haven’t found my pants! Luckily it was warm enough to wear shorts.
Me and GC headed across the bridge with a million other people, whistle at the ready, but I didn’t get to use it. (My husband decided to test it out when I got home and deafened himself!). My favorite GC rockstar moment of the ride was when she decided to power up the El Camino hill, looking casual and comfortable, with a hard core biker dude heavy on her wheel. Try as he might he couldn’t pass her, and from my perspective way behind, he sure looked like he was giving it his best effort. The whole thing was made funnier when she told me at the top he’d been complimenting her on how good she was at hill climbing… I guess he thought he was doing her a favor, not passing and offering up a little coaching 🙂
We ended up in Larkspur for overpriced coffee and pastries, then went back up and over El Camino, against the wind along the bike path, then up the Sausalito hill. I was pleased by my three short but good climbs today and also that I’m tired but not hurting now. We couldn’t have asked for a prettier morning!
30 miles, 3 hills, I reminded myself to use core muscles to support my back whenever I started feeling tired and both hams and quads to make a balanced circle on each pedal rotation during the climbs
stretching and core exercises immediately after
Yay, Jade Greenzymes!
