It’s official- I’d WAY rather get all of my vitamins and nutrients from full meals. I’m sick of smoothies (even though I love combining fun ingredients into a liquid meal) and although I really enjoy not feeling full all the time, that’s perfectly do-able with my regular diet. What I’ve learned about my relationship to food so far:
1. I eat out of boredom and/or when I pass through the kitchen, which is often because I keep my computer in the breakfast nook behind the kitchen
2. My usual portion size is way bigger than it needs to be and no matter what I’m eating, I feel uncomfortably stuffed and icky if I eat too much
3. I always reach for food at the first sign of “hunger” but if I actually give myself time to be with the “hunger” it either dissipates or willingly waits until I decide it’s time for the next meal. No horrible consequences if I don’t eat immediately- which is good news for my husband and bad news for me (since I often use being hungry as an excuse for getting cranky!)
Anyway… today I focused on practice in the morning and bodywork in the afternoon. It never fails that my back feels good when I begin practicing then at the end I realize I’ve forgotten to check in with my position and the left side of my low back is hurting. Luckily I had an acupuncture appointment in the early afternoon so he worked on my back, neck and arms. I left feeling good and eventually made my way to the gym. It took me three tries at separate parking machines to realize that none would print me a ticket for more than 1/2 hour because paid parking ended in 1/2 hour! After that I glanced quickly at my Catch notes to remember which locker combo to use, locked my stuff up then promptly forgot the combo. After an hour of going between core & arm exercises and trying different combos, I gave up and went to the front desk. They sent a tiny female employee in with giant metal cutters and after two tries, she managed to cut my lock off. I lose my locks frequently but I’ve never completely forgotten a combo before. Just goes to show how long it’s been since I’ve used my gym bag! After that exciting experience I settled in for a 15 minute sauna. Unlike the last one, I was sweating within 5 minutes and dripping by the time I stood up to leave. I cooled down with a cold shower then drove home to make another smoothy.
breakfast- apple/carrot/beet/ginger/kale juice, lunch- black cod w/ pea shoots and wild garlic (discovered in my backyard this morning), trumpet mushrooms, brown rice /w baby bok choy, dinner- sludge… I mean super smoothy
